Area wrestling teams ready for regional action – Shaw Local

The IHSA wrestling playoffs kick off Saturday with individual regionals.

Some regionals will be hosted by area schools, and the top three weight class wrestlers from each region will move on to individual sections next weekend. Additionally, the team scoring the most points in the region will advance to the Double Team Section, which takes place after the Individual State Tournament.

In Class 3A, most Joliet-area teams will supply the Granite City section. Regionals in this section with regional teams are hosted by Homewood-Flossmoor, Joliet West and Plainfield Central.

Lincoln-Way East, Lockport, Lincoln-Way Central and Providence Catholic will be at Homewood-Flossmoor Regional; Joliet Central, Joliet West, Minooka and Lincoln-Way West will be at the Joliet West Regional; and Plainfield Central, Plainfield East, Plainfield North, Plainfield South and Romeoville will be at Plainfield Central Regional.

Bolingbrook will participate in the Chicago Marist Regional, which feeds into the Hinsdale Central Sectional.

In Class 2A, three local teams — Joliet Catholic, Lemont and Morris — will wrestle in the LaSalle-Peru Regional, which feeds into the Sycamore Sectional.

In Class 1A, Seneca hosts a region that feeds the Coal City section. The local teams competing will be Reed-Custer, Coal City, Peotone, Seneca and Wilmington. Dwight will wrestle in the El Paso-Gridley Regional, which feeds into the Stanford Olympia Sectional.

All regionals will feature local wrestlers ranked in the Top 10 in their respective weight classes by illinoismatmen.com.

Class 3A

In the Joliet West area, ranked wrestlers include Carson Weber of Joliet West (106, 8th), Dominic Schiavone of Minooka (120, 8th), Elijah Munoz of Minooka (138, 8th), Bryan McCoy of Joliet West (220, 8th) and Wyatt of Joliet West. Schmitt (285, 9th).

In the Homewood-Flossmoor Regional, the ranked wrestlers are David Vukobratovich of Lockport (113, 4th), Billy Mieszner of Providence Catholic (120, 2nd), Joey Malito of Lincoln-Way Central (120, 6th), Connor Smetana of Lincoln- Way Central (132, 8th), Carlos Munoz-Flores of Lockport (132, 10th), Kegan Robertson of Lockport (145, 4th), Logan Shaw of Lockport (152, 4th), Jack Marion of Lincoln-Way East (152, 7th), Dominic Adamo of Lincoln-Way East (160, 7th), Paul Kadlec of Lockport (160, 8th), Braydon Thompson of Lockport (170, 1st), Paul Rasp of Lockport (182, 8th), Andrew Blackburn-Forst of Lockport (220, 1st), Braeden Barrett of Lincoln-Way Central (220, 7th) and RJ Schneider of Providence Catholic (285, 4th).

In the Plainfield Central Regional, the ranked wrestlers are Rudy Silva of Plainfield North (113, 6th), Jacob Macatangay of Plainfield North (126th, 3rd), Jared Gumila of Plainfield North (160, 9th), John Pacevic of Plainfield South (220 , 4th) and Plainfield Kaden McCombs from North (285, 6th).

Class 2A

In the LaSalle-Peru region, the ranked wrestlers are Carter Mikolajcek from Lemont (106, 8th), Gylon Simms from Joliet Catholic Academy (113, 2nd), Shay Korhorn from JCA (126, 4th), Logan Kuhel-Trimmer from JCA (132, 5th), Owen O’Connor of JCA (138, 2nd), Evan Schiffman de Lemont (138, 10th), Connor Cumbee of JCA (152, 10th), Alex Tagler de Lemont (170, 3rd), Mo Khalil de Lemont (182, 4th), Owen Gerdes of JCA (220, 10th) and Dillan Johnson of JCA (285, 1st).

Class 1A

In the Seneca Regional, the ranked wrestlers are Coal City’s Josh Housman (106, 7th), Coal City’s Brant Widlowski (120, 7th), Reed-Custer’s Ryan Tribble (138, 5th), Peotone’s Marco Spinazzola (138, 8th), Coal City’s Zach Finch (152, 3rd), Coal City’s Braiden Young (182, 10th) and Reed-Custer’s Kody Marchner (220, 3rd).

In the El Paso-Gridley Regional, the ranked wrestlers are Dwight’s Dillon Sarff (138, 4th) and Dwight’s Samuel Edwards (220, 8th).
