The Nigerian government has allocated N 308,647,164 for “the prosecution of Boko Haram suspects, violators of assets recovered by the government and improving the process of recovery and monitoring of assets, detainees, maritime / offshore offenses “.

This was included in the 2022 endowment budget of the Ministry of Justice, obtained by SaharaReporters.

In the budget which was analyzed by SaharaReporters, it was further found that 2,004,014,608 naira would be used by the ministry for “counseling and professional services”.

The budget further indicated that the sum of 2,000,514,608 naira would be used for “legal services”.

SaharaReporters reported in April how more than 400 people were arrested by security agencies during a nationwide crackdown on alleged Boko Haram financiers and collaborators.

They were reportedly arrested during an operation coordinated by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The operation was reportedly approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020.

However, SaharaReporters reported that around 300 of the suspects were released on the orders of Federation Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) after collecting bribes.
