Can’t stop touching your face? Think about hypnosis.

The average person touches their face 23 times per hour, making frequent hand washing and keeping hands away from the eyes, nose and mouth during a pandemic essential.

But some people who were not quite successful at breaking the bad habit have resorted to hypnotherapy.

Hypnotist John Mongiovi said business has been booming since the coronavirus began to spread across the country with people trying to trick themselves into keeping their hands away from their faces.

“You can hypnotize someone to reduce the number of self-touching gestures and increase their awareness of wanting to touch their face,” Mongiovi said of his practice. “You notice an urge to touch your face and all of a sudden your arms and hands are very heavy. “

If hypnotherapy isn’t for you, small business owner Aneela Idnani has created a bracelet that vibrates when you’re about to touch your face for her HabitAware business.

She explained that she originally designed the product to help her with her trichotillomania, a compulsive disorder involving hair pulling.

“You train her for the gesture you make,” Idnani told Inside Edition. “Every time you engage in this behavior you get a vibration and that vibration is just that sweet reminder to say, ‘Hey, your hands aren’t where you want them to be.’

Other simple tips to avoid touching your face are to tie your hair back, make sure your glasses are snug, or even sit on your hands if you’re feeling restless.

If you must touch the face, use a clean tissue instead of your hands to stay away from the virus while waiting for the vaccine.
