A woman shared on Facebook a photo of a man praying in front of the Kroger.

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – A photo of an unidentifiable man praying from the Bible outside the Collierville Kroger where a mass shooting took place is shared repeatedly on Facebook.

Collierville neighbor Abigail Clark said at first she didn’t realize the man had a Bible in his hands. She shared the photo of the man just days after the tragedy that killed 15 people.

“It gave me chills,” Clark said. “It sent chills down my spine.”

Clark never imagined that a horrific mass shooting would affect his community. She lives a few minutes from this Kroger and often does her shopping there with her family.

“It’s still surreal,” Clark said. “I don’t really think this could happen in my small town.”

As she shares this moment, she hopes others will find strength through this man’s faith.

“This is how Collierville is,” said Clark. “Something bad happens, there’s always that thing that inspires me. It inspired me.”

Clark shared this photo to show how this little moment of prayer has become an act of defiance in the face of hardship.

“I hope this gives them hope,” said Clark. “Bad things are going to happen anyway. Bad things happen anywhere, but there’s always, always that thing that will give people hope.”

For those in need of support in the aftermath of this tragedy, Billy Graham’s Rapid Response Team offers counseling sessions at the First Baptist Church in Collierville.
