New Delhi | Jagran Press Office: Delhi Resident Doctors on Friday decided to call off their strike against the NEET-PG 2021 board delay. The President of the Federation of Resident Doctors Associations (FORDA) said the strike would be called after 12 noon on Friday.
“We had a meeting with Joint CP last night. The FIR withdrawal process has started (in connection with the ITO protest). After noon today, we will call off our strike against the delay in NEET 2021 advice, ”said Dr Manish, President of FORDA. .
“The patients are already suffering, many surgeries are postponed. In view of this situation, they cancel the strike at 12 noon today,” he added.
Earlier, FORDA offered three demands to end the protest against the delay in NEET-PG advice and the alleged mistreatment of doctors by the police.
After medical residents across the country continued to protest the delay in NEET-PG advice and warned against withdrawing “all health services,” the Union Health Ministry called on Tuesday an emergency meeting with a delegation of 12 FORDA members.
On December 24, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the NEET-PG counseling crisis and increase staffing to deal with a possible third wave of COVID-19 infections.
The initial NEET PG review was scheduled for January 2021 but postponed due to the first and second waves of COVID-19 and took place on September 12, 2021, the letter said. However, due to legal hurdles from the Supreme Court, the council is now suspended, resulting in a shortage of 45,000 primary care physicians, the letter added.
Why were resident physicians on the streets?
Resident doctors’ requests are straightforward: to provide guidance for the NEET-PG exam, the national admission test for admission to postgraduate courses, so that those selected add to the strength of the number insufficient number of resident physicians in medical institutions in India.
Since March 2020, it is the resident doctors who have borne the maximum load of the pandemic with long working hours, endless time away from families and, in several cases, confronted with the wrath of relatives of patients who have succumbed to the coronavirus.
Resident doctors were hoping to get additional hands once NEET PG admissions were completed. The exam that was scheduled for April 2021 was postponed due to the second wave around that time. In September the written exam finally took place but the interviews / counseling sessions are pending.
The government delayed him because they claimed that the issue of the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota was pending and therefore could not proceed with admissions.
As India and the world contemplate a possible third wave thanks to the Omicron variant, doctors can still fend for themselves with extra hands. With the government not giving in, medical residents across India began the protests on November 27.
