In addition, community collaboration with other organizations in the region is very important. GHCCM staff, made up of certified and trained peer support specialists, are on hand to offer immediate assistance to neighbors facing an emotional or mental crisis.

These conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia are debilitating,” says Sain. “We believe you can’t fully care for someone medically until you address their mental health and/or addiction issues.”

As a not-for-profit ministry, GHCCM depends on funding to launch and sustain new initiatives.

The ministry contacted foundations and individuals in the area to ask for their support for the project. GHCCM proposed the new program, Behavioral Health and Wellness Initiative, and applied for funding to make the new program a reality.

“We are grateful to these foundations and individuals – AlexLee Inc., Beaver Family Foundation, Corning Inc. Foundation, The Kulynych Family Foundation, TSH Charitable Foundation and Ms. Carol de Perczel – who have enabled GHCCM to surpass our goal of beginning this new ministry, an offering that will impact many lives,” said Linda Wade, Director of Development.

The ministry has hired two certified peer support specialists, Jane Duralia, RN, and Twanna Bowens, PSS, who will work at the clinic and the Whole Life Center. Peer Support Specialists, whose life experiences have prepared them to provide the skills necessary for screening and outreach to ministry neighbors.
