Dorothy Fergin, known to family and friends as Lois, died Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Eliseo, a facility in Tacoma, Washington.

Lois was born on April 17, 1931 in Billings, Montana, to the Reverend Paul and Milda Freiburger. After graduating from high school in Billings, she attended Eastern Montana College of Education and graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. Lois taught at Bethlehem Lutheran School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

On June 14, 1957, Lois married James Fergin in Billings. In 1958, they went to Sri Lanka, where they served as missionaries and raised five children.

In 1977, they accepted a position at the Redeemer Lutheran Church on Mercer Island, Washington, where Lois remained a member. At the Redeemer, on several occasions, she was organist, choir director and treasurer. She occasionally helped church members who were homebound. She was an active member of the LWML (Luteran Women’s Missionary League) and LMS (Lutheran Ministry Services). Before retiring, she was an accountant for DP Fuels for 10 years.

She always had a love of music and loved to give piano lessons. Lois enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and sharing stories. She enjoyed reading, putting together scrapbooks and puzzles, and watching sports.

She is survived by five children: Tom and his wife Kim, Peter, Debbie and her husband Marv, Tim and his wife Shelly, and Mike and his wife Danielle. She has four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She has chosen to be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Redeember Lutheran Church at 6001 Island Crest Way in Mercer Island.
