Greco Creative Arts Center in West Pittston offers visual and therapeutic art classes

WEST PITTSTON – Cabrini and Salvatore “Sam” Greco came to Greater Pittston with the goal of helping people express their inner creativity.

The best way to do this was to open the Greco Creative Arts Center, which offers various forms of art expression through painting, dance, music, yoga, education, poetry and the arts. healing such as meditation and hypnosis.

The center is located at 602 avenue Luzerne and is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

“Our focus is really community driven,” Cabrini said. “We want to bring people together in their own uniqueness and their own individual gifts and to raise awareness of who they are. We believe that everyone has a personal gift and a personal skill that they can guide them and that they have to develop within themselves. “

The center opened a few weeks ago and is a nonprofit that is in the process of obtaining a 501c3, which would make it exempt from federal income tax.

The husband and wife duo from Kingston said they operate on a volunteer basis and use the money they earn to reinvest building necessities, such as electricity and heat as well as art supplies. They make a living through private one-on-one sessions with clients.

Cabrini said the idea for the business came when she and her husband decided to pack their bags and travel the country in 2003 with just $ 200 in their pocket.

Salvatore said the center was still in the plan when the couple made the decision to travel.

“The idea for the physical center came from day one in 2003,” he said. “Finally it happened, but it took all of that experience of traveling and working with people to create this place. “

Salvatore studied art in Rome, Italy, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree as well as a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Windsor located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

He will teach visual arts classes that include painting, drawing, and making three-dimensional art projects, as well as working with school children to help them with their art education.

“I run art classes that help kids understand some math and geography concepts at their grade level,” Salvatore said. “Let’s say, like the mathematical models in third grade, where the child cannot understand the mathematical models. They will create a mobile where they will cut out patterns and make patterns from parts. Another is that they can sculpt, through Puddy, the different stages of plant growth where we will have four or five pieces of sculpture from seed to flower that will take their science.

Salvatore said he would also give dance lessons in the near future.

Cabrini will teach healing arts classes that include hypnosis, stress reduction, weight control, and pain management.

She received her hypnotherapist certification from the Hypnosis Training Institute in Corte Madera, Calif., And has worked with the healing arts for over 30 years.

“When people think of hypnosis, they think of hypnosis for entertainment and not in a therapeutic or non-therapeutic way,” Cabrini said. “It’s about restructuring your own thought process and the individual is doing it for themselves. What I do is induce people into the state of hypnosis through a state of relaxation and they have their own experience with whatever the subject of the evening is.

While clients can call the Greco Creative Arts Center to make an appointment at 570-655-1100, Salvatore and Cabrini have an open door policy, which means anyone can come in and participate in an on-site class.

With Pittston in the midst of revitalizing the art, Salvatore and Cabrini hope they can do something similar at West Pittston.

“We’re here for the long haul,” Cabrini said. “We are really excited to have our center here in West Pittston.
