Growth mindset is key to doing well in the DSA interview and beyond

The DSA (Direct School Admission) interview in Singapore is a key step for elementary 6 students to gain the opportunity to enter a school of their choice using a field of talent that they are passionate about. However, what is even more important is that it represents a unique route of early exposure in the interview world, and it is an invaluable experience for our young talent. Seizing this opportunity to develop a growth mindset will reap rewards beyond school.

As an Interview Coach, I have had the opportunity to work with many young students who are preparing for their first interview. However, it’s not just about performing well during that particular interview. At this age, succeeding in an interview also means developing your state of mind and your ability to face very stressful moments. This then impacts their ability to communicate their thoughts in a clear and confident manner, a skill they will need to use in various situations in the future, especially during presentations and presentations.

Many of my senior high school and junior high school clients who were exposed to the interview process early on (DSA is one of the most common early opportunities available) become much more confident in their interview skills and show an early aptitude for tackling grueling scholarship interviews. and the conditions for admission to the university. As one undergraduate student shared with me: “I remember thinking that if I could do it (attend an interview) when I was only 12, I certainly can do it now. The interview is now a process that I no longer dread ”.

The DSA process is not for everyone, but for those who have chosen to try this path, the right guidance and encouragement can make a big difference in a child’s perspective in difficult situations. Try to praise effort, focus, strategies, and improvement. Ultimately, a resilient child will be able to meet future challenges in a much more positive way.

Much of the battle is won when the child has a growth mindset. My goal as an interview coach is to equip each child with interview skills that will prepare them for success beyond school.
