KSMU Partners with Springfield-Greene County Library District to Host StoryCorps Mobile Tour at Library Center – News

KSMU-Ozarks Public Radio is partnering with the Springfield-Greene County Library District to host the StoryCorps Mobile Tour at the Springfield Library Center. The Library Center will serve as a check-in location for in-person interviews during the StoryCorps visit from April 21 through May 18.

In a StoryCorps interview, two people who know and care about each other record a meaningful conversation between them about who they are, what they’ve learned in life, and how they want to be remembered. of them. A trained StoryCorps facilitator guides them through the interview process.

“The Springfield-Greene County Library celebrates the art of storytelling through diverse voices every day in our physical collections and the ancestry stories captured in the local history department’s digital collections,” said Kathleen O’ Dell, director of community relations for the Springfield-Greene. “We are therefore delighted to host the recording sessions of families and friends when StoryCorps visits the Library Center.”

After each 40-minute recording session, participants receive a digital copy of their interview. With the permission of the participants, a second copy is archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress for future generations to hear.

“Part of what we do on public radio is to connect people; share stories and experiences that enlighten us, entertain us and remind us of our common humanity understanding that everyone has a story to tell and everyone’s story matters,” said Sue Robinson, Director of Community Support at KSMU.

“Partnering with the Springfield-Greene County Library to serve as the StoryCorps registration site was a natural fit, and we are thrilled to partner with them on this unique opportunity for our community to add their voice to the StoryCorps collection. “

KSMU will also air a selection of local interviews and create special programs around the project. StoryCorps can also share excerpts of these stories with the world through the project’s popular weekly NPR broadcasts, animated shorts, digital platforms and bestselling books.
