Free Zoom consultations offered

Gylian Solay of Emergent Life Foundation offers free counseling sessions on Zoom at 4 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, December 28 and 30 for anyone going through a rough time this holiday season.

One-on-one time “Raise morale” Sessions are available for individuals, couples and groups of up to 12 participants.

AAUW Maui awards scholarships

The American Association of University Women Maui Branch has awarded scholarships totaling $ 6,000 to three students at the University of Hawaii Maui College for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Kobelynn Bounlangsy received the Dorothy Shimer scholarship of $ 2,000. Kawaiola Wendt received the Harriet Haines Memorial Scholarship of $ 2,000. Bree Hyssopo received the $ 2,000 heritage scholarship.

Each year, the Maui branch of the organization awards three scholarships to students of UH-Maui College. The annual scholarship ceremony has been canceled this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Maui 5K Run and Walk scheduled for March

The 11th Annual Maui 5K Run and Walk will be held at the Maui Ocean Center from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on March 6.

Participants will have the option of participating in a 5 km timed run / walk or a 1.6 km non-timed walk. There will also be a 5 km and 1 mile virtual walk option.

The 5K race begins and ends at the Maui Ocean Center. The 1 mile boardwalk begins at the Maui Ocean Center and circles the Maalaea Triangle.

Proceeds from the event will support physical education, fitness and athletics programs at schools in Maui County. Registrants can indicate the school they wish to support on their registration form.

Registration is open until 11:59 p.m. on March 3. Participants who register before February 22 can reserve an event t-shirt in their size.

Registration is $ 30 for the 5 km run and $ 25 for the 1 mile walk. Each event has an additional registration fee.

Higashi to speak at Rotary club meeting

Mariko Higashi of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset will be the guest speaker at the weekly Kahului Rotary Club meeting from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday.

Higashi is a retired private sector and economic development professional in developing countries. She has experience in investment, subsidy management, regional strategy and water resources management. She is currently Deputy Governor of Rotary International District 5000 and supports the presidents of the five Rotary clubs on the Maui coast.

Higashi will provide an update on the Rotary club fruit tree planting project. Irrigation and planting work will take place in January and will continue until March.

Holiday movie night helps local families

Organizers are seeking support for a vacation movie night organized for low-income families on Maui.

The event at Mulligans on the Blue on Monday evening will provide freebies to the more than 120 children who are expected to attend and watch “The Polar Express” of their cars.

Maui’s Food Bank donated snacks, while Mulligans donated drinks and popcorn.

Santa will also be arriving with his elves in a golf cart donated by the Wailea Healing Center.

Proceeds from the event, which is presented by Mulligans and Keller Williams Realty Maui Realtor Lynn Taylor, will benefit Maui Rescue Mission.
