Maryland Church Gives $ 50 Thanksgiving Grocery Gift Cards – NBC4 Washington

Thousands of people showed up to a church in Maryland on Sunday for a little help this Thanksgiving.

It has become a tradition for the Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, and each year the need seems to increase.

The $ 50 gift cards were paid for with contributions from church members.

It still does online services, but the ministry continues, and on Sunday people were still going.

“We have always been connected to the community, the church to the community, and we want to do the work to help those in need,” said Pastor Jo Ann Browning.

People stood in line for hours before the grocery store gift card distribution began. The $ 50 may not go as far as it once did, but the need goes even further.

“We did it because during the last Thanksgiving pandemic we saw the need was so great, we actually had homeless people who were in the church parking lot at 2:30 am waiting for the food gift cards, and so this year we’re assuming there could be up to 3,000 people, ”Pastor Grainger Browning said. “The line came back for 2 miles. “

Things went smoothly with two lanes and dozens of church volunteers at work.

It took about an hour for the line to clear and Allentown Road to clear.
