Dr Tarek Shawki, Egyptian Minister of Education and Technical Education, met Ms Elena Panova, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt to discuss the long-standing cooperation of the United Nations in Egypt in the field of ‘education.

At the start of the meeting, Dr Tarek Shawky welcomed Ms Elena Panova, praising the important role played by the United Nations in supporting the Egyptian education sector, and the importance of continuing the work between the two parties on the basis of partnership, cooperation and transparency in the service of the educational process.

Shawky emphasized that education is a learning journey where students should enjoy learning on this journey, stressing the importance of digital transformation in this educational journey. He underlined the importance of mastery of the process by teachers and the need to acquire skills to accomplish this mission. He also highlighted how to benefit from scholarships, and integrate the principles of “education for sustainable development” in all types of education, whether (formal school education, or non-formal education ” community education ‘), which helps to correct any imbalance and treat it in a healthy and clear manner.

Ms. Panova expressed appreciation for the significant and comprehensive development witnessed in the education system in Egypt under the leadership of Dr. Shawky, and commented: “Egypt has taken serious transformative steps by adopting the strategy of Education 2.0. This has shown a real improvement in the education system which guarantees access to quality learning and digital skills for people living in Egypt. She added: “We appreciate the progress made in the education sector in Egypt, as the success of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals depends on the reform undertaken in education. stressing that Egypt’s education reform plans are a pioneering story in the region.

It should be mentioned that the United Nations in Egypt is working closely with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education to support national efforts to reform the education system in Egypt in cooperation with several United Nations agencies in Egypt. , notably Unicef, UNESCO, UNFPA, PAM, ILO, UNIDO, IMO and others. This cooperation includes various issues such as support for students’ accessibility to high quality education, the fight against student dropout, support for national efforts to modernize the physical infrastructure of schools and community schools, in addition to providing technical support in the development of educational programs that integrate digital and skills-based education with particular emphasis on supporting the technical education sector.

The meeting brought together both Dr Sherine Hamdi, Minister’s Advisor for Administrative Development and Headquarters Supervisor for Minister’s Cabinet Affairs, and Dr Arun Jacob, Economist and Acting Head of the Office of the Office of the Resident coordinator.
