Setting goals is paramount to personal and professional success, and the New Year is a great time to reflect both on past goals and on new things we want to accomplish.

This year, we want to encourage you to think about setting personal and professional goals. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that life is far too short and uncertain to waste time being less than ourselves. So, let’s get down to doing the hard and necessary work to learn, grow, and become everything we’re meant to be!

Lucky for us here in the House we have resources and help to offer as you begin to set some of these personal and professional goals. One of those resources that is often underutilized in our small business community: hiring a coach!

We often consider coaches for personal training and athletic activities because we know how important professional guidance is when it comes to learning, staying motivated, and achieving our betting goals. in shape. Your personal success is no different.

We spoke to Chris Lemig of True Nature Hypnotherapy about how he teaches people to focus on their personal well-being and success and he offered three of his favorite tips.

1. Rest and sleep
We live in a world deprived of sleep and rest. The consequences of this can be quite serious. Sleep deprivation has been linked to all kinds of health issues and disorders. Depression, heart disease, and even suicide are some of the results of not getting enough sleep.

Chris helps many people (including myself) create and maintain healthy sleep patterns. Sometimes hypnosis is involved, but more often than not there are just a few basic things that need to be changed. Having a regular sleep schedule, maintaining a healthy sleep environment that includes enough darkness, and limiting sugar and caffeine intake are some of the things we can start to change immediately.

2. Correct sizing and cropping
Stress and anxiety have become more of a mental health issue in recent years. Resizing and cropping are techniques that we use in Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) that help calm our mental state. By making a habit of noticing when we start to feel stressed or anxious, we can train ourselves to start looking at things from new angles.

For example, if we feel ourselves turning into a case of “what if” (and if I lose my job, and if I get sick, and if I lose my house, etc.), we can just add the word “so” at the beginning of the question. “What if I lose my job?” “What if I get sick?” The point is that when we face the source of our anxiety head-on, we can see that there is a path through even the most difficult situations.

3. Meditation
Much has been said about the mental wellness benefits of meditation over the past decade. And that’s because there are a lot of advantages!

Daily meditation practice, even a few minutes a day, can help us come to know and stabilize our mind. It is a skill that can help us calm down, focus, and relax both mentally and physically. I recommend that almost all of my clients start a meditation practice with easily achievable goals. You can start to see the benefits right away.

1) Increase your team bond – In this period of “The Great Resignation”, not all companies are impacted in the same way. Companies with a great culture don’t see the loss rates of other companies. There are simple disciplines you can incorporate into your team to reduce the risk of losing your greatest asset.

2) Do the right things – Most leaders are so busy doing their job that they lose sight of whether or not they are doing the right job. To get the big picture, you need to develop systems to support your less important work. The skills are simple, but it takes a great deal of discipline to master the process.

3) Hold yourself accountable – As a business owner or leader within your organization, you are accountable to your customers, your business, your employees and yourself. This responsibility can become very easily blurred. You can develop some tools that will hold you accountable even when you are overwhelmed or distracted.
