Tom Spyt is the founder of Coaching and Hypnosis Sanctuary. After retiring as a professor of cardiovascular surgery and his role as a consultant cardiac surgeon at Leicester, Tom underwent extensive training in coaching and hypnotherapy so that he could continue to help people.

What is life coaching?

“When a client comes to me asking for help changing a particular thought process they might be stuck in or complaining about being limited in their life, I can help them,” Tom said.

“I set specific, achievable and measurable goals for myself, making them achievable and realistic. This works especially well with creative clients, as not all of us work in the left-brain procedural way. This is because we have emotions, dreams and fears which means we have opportunities and we get stuck.

“Quite often, I just have to help clients exhibit or perform differently, not to go in a linear progression, not to take incremental steps, but only to help them, which is different from performance coaching.

“Traditional coaching often uses neurolinguistic programming (NLP), and neurological levels are particularly useful when clients are faced with a loss of identity and purpose. Loss of identity and purpose frequently occurs after retirement and as a result of trauma or serious illness.

“Everyone sometimes feels limited and constrained by negative feelings more than we would like. We all experience feelings of stress, fear, and depression, and these negatively impact our enjoyment of life, our performance at work, and our relationships. Chronic negative states restrict our potential.

During coaching and hypnotherapy, Tom will teach you techniques to help yourself, based on understanding the “three principles”.

What are the “three principles”?

“The Three Ones is a paradigm created by Sydney Banks, an American philosopher, teaching us the interplay between the principle of mind, consciousness and thought,” said Tom.

“So, for example, we are not afraid of what we think we are afraid of – instead, we are afraid to think about what we are afraid of. “

Hypnotherapy

“Hypnosis helps people change the way they think, feel and react to events and circumstances in their lives, so that they can enjoy the life they deserve,” continued Tom.
