Experts deplore the lack of good parenting practices and the decline of societal values
December 14 (THEWILL) – At a panel discussion organized by United Action for Change (UAC) in Lagos, experts in children’s rights and child education denounced the lack of good parenting practices in society today as well as the general decline of societal values.
The roundtable, held last weekend, on the theme “Parental failure and declining societal values”, brought together Yetunde Fashakin, consultant psychiatrist, clinician, researcher, teacher and addiction specialist; Aameenah Oluwatosin Yunus-Ali, Certified Performance Consultant and Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP); Taiwo Akinlami, co-founder and CEO, Power Parenting Company LLC; The human rights / family protection and strengthening expert / lawyer and Saadat Ogunbote, educator, child advocate, adolescent coach and counselor, in their respective presentations, they agreed that it was high time that the Stakeholders at different levels come together to propose solutions to the persistent crisis of parental failure and lack of societal values in contemporary times.
Welcoming participants to the event, United Action for Change manager and session moderator Muiz Banire, former Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, said: Result of bad parenting and the nonchalant attitude of contemporary parents towards the good education of their children. Hence the need for the organization to call on everyone to come, reason together and look for great ways to save society.
According to a statement by Secretary, Michqel Popoola Ajayi, Yetunde Fashakin, who is also Managing Director (CEO) / Managing Director (MD), Amazing Health Care Clinic, said: “The problem in society is that we are less concerned with the future of our young people. “Parents are responsible for guiding and caring for children until adulthood. And we need to instill a godly conscience in the lives of children. If you don’t reprimand your child when they are wrong, it is a sign of parental failure. Spare the cane and spoil the child.
Fashakin, who is also a member, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, said every child should be given special attention, saying, “A parent will make a mistake if they try to put all the children in the same. mussel. Each child is unique and must be trained in a unique way. Be deliberate about parenting, don’t leave your child’s education to chance.
In her presentation, Aameenah Oluwatosin Yunus-Ali denounced the reality of today’s world. And it is sad that we can only the instructor condemn so many things to which they are exposed, but we do not offer alternatives.
Yunus-Ali, who is also an associate practitioner at the Institute of Family Systems Engineering and Development and a member of the Family Systems Engineering Professionals, however suggested that; “We have to recreate the society we want. In addition, the school your child attends must share the same value system that you want to build for the child. Particular attention must be paid to schooling. You must have a specific goal of sending your child to a particular school. The school should have a vision and core values in line with your family value system and the future you aspire to for your child.
Talk about the effective education of a child; Akinlami highlighted family, community, state and international community as four institutions responsible for raising a child saying, “The family remains the foundation of society and rule number one is to instill a system of values. positive to children. On the other hand, the community, which includes the school, religious organizations, NGOs, the media among others, have the role of validating the system of family values. It is sacrosanct that a child needs to hear the same voice of all. When a child begins to hear various messages from these institutions, a big problem sets in.
Always stressing the place of “school” in the education of a child; the fourth speaker, Saadat Ogunbote, who is also the initiator of Pearls Of Wisdom, a platform made up of parents, teachers, school owners and education enthusiasts whose mission is to inspire and maintain academic excellence among young minds said; “A school can make or spoil a child. A parent must have a clear idea of the type of school they want for their child. The family value system must determine such a school. A lot of disinfection has to start in our schools. The government must regulate the creation of private schools. We have to start asking; What exactly are these schools for? Who are the people who create the schools? What is their vision?
Lamenting the decay of society, Ogunbote said, “Society today celebrates vices rather than virtues. Today, for children, vices are good things while virtues are bad. In this regard, the media must be sanitized, as they have a great influence on the world today. The media pushes us a lot, and these are the things that are ruling the world right now. The media should promote good content for the sake of children and their future.
